On March 11, 1888, the “Great Blizzard of ‘88” struck the northeast coast of America from Chesapeake Bay to Maine. This was one of the worst blizzards in American history. More than 400 people were killed and as much as 55 inches of snow fell in some areas. New York City alone had over $20 million in property damage.
