On March 4, 1933, Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) was inaugurated for the first time as the 32nd President of the United States. FDR defeated President Herbert Hoover, who only served one term, in the election of 1932 by a landslide. FDR’s famous inaugural speech addressed his outline for the “New Deal” and coined the famous quote that “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” FDR would be the first and only president to serve more than 2 terms of presidency; with a total of 4.
