On This Day In History

On February 24, 1868, President Andrew Johnson became the first president to be impeached in the United States. He was impeached for dismissing Edwin Stanton, the Secretary of War without getting the approval from the Senate and for his attack on Congressional policies on the Reconstruction of the South.
