On This Day In History

On January 28, 1901, the American League was established. Initially called the Western League or the American Association (AA), it was founded as a minor league in 1893. Initially there were six teams, which include the St. Louis Brown Stockings (now the Cardinals), The Cincinnati Red Stockings (now the Reds), the Pittsburgh Alleghenys (now the Pirates), the Louisville Grays, the Baltimore Orioles and the Philadelphia Athletics.
