On This Day In History

On January 23, 1849, Elizabeth Blackwell became the first woman in the United States to receive a medical degree from the Geneva Medical College in Geneva, New York. Blackwell along with her sister Emily and Marie Zakrzewska, both also doctors opened the New York Infirmary for Women and Children in 1857. In 1895, Blackwell also published Pioneer Work in Opening the Medical Profession to Women.
