On This Day In History

On January 8, 1790, President George Washington delivered the first State of the Union address in New York City. The address gave a brief outline of his administration’s polices including war preparedness, national defense and foreign affairs. Also part of Washington’s national goals included the need for a Federal Post Office and public education.
