On This Day In History

On December 27, 1932, Radio City Music Hall opened in Manhattan, NY. In October 1928, John D. Rockefeller Jr. signed the lease for a sizable piece of land in midtown and plans for a Metropolitan Opera House were in the works until the depression hit. Partnered with the Radio Corporation of America (RCA), the Art Deco theater was constructed as the cornerstone of Rockefeller Complex. More than 700 films debuted, in the still, largest indoor theater, but in 1979, the theater began featuring more stage shows and concerts. Since its opening, over 300 million people have gone to Radio City Music Hall for movies, stage shows, concerts and special events.
