On This Day In History

On December 21, 1891, the first game of basketball was played. Created by 30-year-old James Naismith, the original game only had 13 rules. The first game consisted of 2 teams each with 9 players at the International Young Men’s Christian Association Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts. A peach basket was attached to each end of the gym and the players were told their object was to get a soccer ball into the opposing team’s basket. After each made basket, a jump ball was done.
