On December 16, 1773, a group of colonists protested the British Parliament’s Tea Act by dumping tea in the Boston Harbor; dubbed The Boston Tea Party. Three ships brought in tea, but colonists demanded it be returned due to the taxes. When the Governor refused the return, at midnight, 342 chests of tea were dumped into the harbor to protest, led by Patriot leader Samuel Adams and 60 members of the Sons of Liberty.
