On November 26, 1917, the National Hockey League (NHL) was founded in Montréal. The National Hockey Association of Canada Limited (NHA) originated in 1909, but after owner disputes, operations were suspended. The Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings, Montréal Canadiens, New York Rangers and the Toronto Maple Leafs are known as the “Original Six.”
