In the lead up to the war, on February 15th, 1898, the battleship U.S.S. Maine that was docked in the Havana, Cuba harbor exploded, killing 266 of the 354 crew members. It's unknown what caused the explosion, but many believed it was done by Spain.

America's forces were far superior, and gained victory over the Spanish in 10 weeks.

On July 1st of 1898, the most famous encounter of the war occurred when future U.S.
