On This Day In History

On November 12, 1799, the first meteor shower was recorded in U.S. American astronomer Andrew Ellicott saw and recorded in his journal the Leonids meteor shower while on a ship off the Florida Keys. The Leonids meteor shower happens annually and can be seen in the Northern Hemisphere’s sky. The Leonid meteor shower is expected to peak sometime between on the night of November 17 – dawn of November 18.
