On This Day In History

On September 9, 1950, California becomes the 31st state in the Union. In February of 1848, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed ending the Mexican-American war. The treaty expanded the U.S.’s territory by over 525,000 square miles. The treaty included territory now known as the states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas and Utah.
