On This Day in History

On April 22, 1994, former President Richard Nixon died after suffering from a stroke four days prior. Nixon served as a Representative and Senator from California and was Vice President to Dwight D. Eisenhower before becoming the 37th President from 1969-1974.

Nixon was elected into presidency twice, in 1968 and 1972. Nixon improved international relations with the U.S.S.R. and China, ended American troops fighting in Vietnam, ended the draft and lowered voting age from 21 to 18 to name a few. Nixon also supported environmental programs such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the formation of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Clean Water Act of 1972, the Endangered Species Act of 1973, but will always be remembered most for the Watergate scandal and being the first and only President to resign from office.
