On This Day In History

On August 23, 1947, the Williamsport “Maynard Midgets” were crowned the first Little League World Series (LLWS) champions. The original name of the series was the National Little League Tournament and only consisted of 11 teams from Pennsylvania and 1 team from New Jersey. Aside from Canada, beginning in 1952, and Mexico in 1957, the LLWS began adding additional international teams in 1958.
