On This Day In History

On August 22, 1902, Henry Leland founded the Cadillac automobile company. After Henry Ford left the Henry Ford Company after a dispute with his investors, Leland, an engineer with the Leland & Falconer Manufacturing Company, convinced investors to continue making automobiles with his single-cylinder engine. Leland named the company after Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, the founder of Detroit. The iconic Cadillac crest was based on the family’s coat of arms.
