On This Day In History

On August 9, 1974, Vice President Gerald R. Ford was sworn in as the 38th American

president in the East Room of the White House after Richard M. Nixon resigned due to the

Watergate Scandal. Ford became the vice president after he replaced Spiro Agnew when he

resigned. Ford ended up losing a second term to Jimmy Carter in 1976.
