On This Day In History

On July 30, 1777, New York’s first governor, Brigadier General George Clinton took office. Clinton went on to be not only New York’s longest serving governor, but also the longest in U.S. history. Clinton served as governor until 1804 and then was elected vice president in 1805 under Thomas Jefferson and James Madison until he died in 1812.
