On This Day In History

On July 24, 1969, Apollo 11 lands safely back on Earth. Apollo 11 was the first U.S. spacecraft to take the first astronauts to the moon’s surface. Apollo 11 left Earth from Kennedy Space Center on July 16, 1969 with astronauts Neil Armstrong, Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin Jr., and Michael Collins.

Armstrong was the first human to walk on the surface of the moon and millions heard him speak the famous line, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” Aldrin joined Armstrong on the moon’s surface where they took photos, ran some tests and planted the U.S. flag.
