The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony will take place on Friday, July 26. For the first time in history of the Olympics, the Opening Ceremonies will not take place in an outside stadium with athletes marching on an athletics track, but instead, will occur along the Seine River.
Nearly 100 boats will carry the estimated 10,500 athletes starting from the Austerlitz Bridge, next to the Jardin des Plantes, and continue almost 4 miles along the Seine. The boat parade will pass by iconic landmarks including Notre-Dame and the Louvre along with some of the game venues including the Esplanade des Invalides and the Grand Palais. The boats will end opposite the esplanade across the Eiffel Tower, at the Trocadero.
More than a billion people are expected to watch the ceremonies world wide.
