Officers Attacked In Times Square

Five illegal migrants were arrested for the attack of two officers in Times Square. The men range in age from 19-24. At this time, four of the men have been released without bail and authorities are looking for others.

The officers were trying to break up a disorderly crowd in front of one of the migrant shelters over the weekend. When the officers tried apprehending and arresting one of the individuals, the mob attacked them. The attack was captured on surveillance video.

One lieutenant suffered cuts on his face and the other suffered from bodily injuries and bruises after getting pushed, kicked and punched repeatedly.

NYC Police Benevolent Association President, Patrick Hendry said, “Attacks on police officers are becoming an epidemic, and the reason is the revolving door we’re seeing in cases like this one… It is impossible for police officers to deal effectively with crime and disorder if the justice system can’t or won’t protect us while we do that work.”

One of the arrested men has two open assault and robbery charges against him already, where he allegedly pushed, punched, and bit someone as well as punched a loss prevention officer.

John Chell, NYPD Chief of Patrol said, “The four that were arrested should be sitting in Rikers right now, they should have been indicted this week, taken off our streets. You want to know why our cops are getting assaulted, there’s no consequences and we must change this. End of story.”

The men are facing several charges including assault of a police officer, gang assault, obstructing government administration and disorderly conduct.
