NYC High School Closes For Migrants

Parents are speaking out after being told their children would be learning remotely today, because their high school closed to house migrants.

Nearly 2,000 migrants were evacuated from the Floyd Bennett Field tent shelters due to the severe winter storm that raged across New York City.

James Madison High School in Brooklyn closed to shelter the asylum seekers. Students were forced to remain home and were told to do their classes online.

Parents were surprised to hear of the closure and outraged when teachers either weren’t showing up online, or popping in during the first few minutes of the class period to tell students which assignment to complete.

Elected officials and community leaders said, should this need to happen again, they could give a list of empty buildings, not schools, to house migrants.

The high school is going to be cleaned and classes will resume in the building tomorrow.
