Notre Dame Swimming Scandal

Coming off of the school’s best swimming (and diving) finish last year, Notre Dame’s men’s swim team will be suspended from competitions this upcoming school year for gambling.

After an external investigation, members were caught violating the NCAA rules by wagering on college sports or providing any information that could influence betting. More than 60% of the team, 25 swimmers, who were set to return this season, took part in betting on member’s performances, and bet amongst themselves on the Super Bowl and March Madness.

Men swimmers can transfer to other programs to compete if they haven’t received any penalties at Notre Dame. If any member was accused of wrong doings, or have penalties, and are attempting to transfer to another program, they’d have to petition the NCAA to ask for reinstatement.

Notre Dame’s athletic director Pete Bevacqua didn’t find any staff member or coach guilty of gambling violations and non have been suspended.
