Dry conditions, low humidity and 10-25 mph winds continue as the Jennings Creek wildfire rages on spreading through the northeastern states. The fire has already burned through more than 5,000 acres but is 88% contained on the New York side and 90% contained on the New Jersey side.
The fire has the increased risk of spreading through parts of New Jersey, upstate New York and NYC, Massachusetts and Connecticut.
A local school in the area is closed and acting as a shelter for residents to evacuate to.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul issued a statewide burn ban forbidding any outdoor fires.
Essential precipitation is in the forecast for the northeast, which could bring 1-2 inches of rain in the much-needed areas of the wildfire.
