No More ‘Bags Fly Free’ on Southwest

For the first time in nearly 60 years, Southwest Airlines is ditching their “Bags Fly Free” policy. “Bags Fly Free” was a major part of the airline’s slogan and what set it apart from rival airlines.

This announcement comes just months after the airline got rid of their open seating policy and it was the most recognizable and biggest perk Southwest offered their customers. The fees will be exempt for anyone flying business class or members of the Rapid Rewards A-List Loyalty Program.

Although Southwest has yet to reveal how much the fees will cost, customers will be charged for their checked luggage beginning on May 28.
