Twenty-eight years in the making and five visits to the finals, the New York Liberty finally takes home the WNBA championship title.
In front of the home crowd in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the Liberty defeated the Minnesota Lynx in overtime of the Game 5, winner-take-all situation.
The Liberty was trailing 60-58 with only 6.3 seconds left in regulation. A controversial, challenged foul call on Breanna Stewart resulted in her making the two free throws and forced an overtime period.
Jonquel Jones was named the Finals MVP. This was Jones’ fourth career Finals.
