Chick-fil-A is opening two different types of establishments in Manhattan and Atlanta.
Next week, a new location is opening up in Manhattan, which will be for mobile app pickup and delivery orders only. There will be no cashiers, dining room or drive thru. This is Chick-fil-A’s first digital-only restaurant.
Once the mobile app order is placed, the restaurant will use GPS tracking to prepare and have the order ready for when the customer arrives. They will also use active status board screens, one for delivery orders and one for mobile pick up orders. The screens will be in real time and give an estimated time that orders will be ready.
This concept was designed for “on-the-go New Yorkers.”
“At Chick-fil-A, we are always looking for ways to innovate and enhance the Guest experience,” Nathaniel Cates, senior principal design lead for Chick-fil-A, said. “While digital concepts are becoming more prevalent, it’s important that we evolve in a uniquely Chick-fil-A way – meeting the changing needs of our customers without compromising the signature service and care they’ve grown to know and love.”
Later this year, Chick-fil-A will also try its first drive-thru-only concept in Atlanta. Orders could be made at the location through a cashier, or by using the mobile app. It will be a two-story establishment with 4 drive thru lanes. The kitchen is said to be twice the size of an ordinary Chick-fil-A kitchen. It will also be equipped with a conveyor belt transporting orders from the kitchen to the drive thru areas.
Chick-fil-A’s goal is trying to cut down wait times for customers.
