NCAA Wrestling History Made

For the first time in NCAA history, Carter Starocci has won the Division I Wrestling Championship for the 5th year in a row. Due to the shortened 2020 Covid-19 season, Starocci was granted an additional year of eligibility. Starocci is among the elite 7 wrestlers to win 4 straight NCAA titles.

Starocci, the Penn State champ began taking titles in 2021 as a freshman. In 2022 and 2023, Starocci went undefeated in both seasons and fought through a right knee injury in 2024.

Cael Sanderson, Starocci’s coach said, “There’s certain thing where you hate to lose so much that you will do whatever it takes – diet, anything within the rules of course. Most people don’t have that. He does. He’s a competitor. He puts in the time in and he does what he thinks he needs to do the be ready mentally and physically. An then he goes out there and he competes hard every time.”

Starocci’s college record was 104-4. Only losing 2 times as a freshman and 2 injury defaults in the 2024 Big Ten Championship.

Starocci’s walk out song is the Michael Meyers/Halloween theme music. “When those lights turn on, I turn that switch on and so for me, I see red and whoever’s out in front of me, there’s just no remorse,” he said.
