Mizuhara Pleading Guilty

The U.S. Justice Department has announced that Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani's former interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara, has agreed to plead guilty to bank and tax fraud in a sports betting case in which he stole almost $17 million from Ohtani to pay off debts.

The agreement will have Mizuhara pay restitution to Ohtani and more than $1 million to the IRS.

U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada stated...

"The extent of this defendant's deception and theft is massive. He took advantage of his position of trust to take advantage of Mr. Ohtani and fuel a dangerous gambling habit."

Mizuhara deposited $142 million in winning bets into his personal account. His losses totaled $183 million for a net loss of $41 million.
