According to the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks), a 7-year-old boy was rescued from the Matusadona National Park after being reported missing from his home on December 27, 2024
The child, Tinotenda Pudu survived on his own for 5 days in the game park inhabited by lions, big cats, elephants, black rhinos and other wild animals. Heavy rainfall hindered park rangers, police authorities and local community members search efforts.
After discovering human footprints in the vast 570 square mile park on December 30, the boy was eventually located shortly after on December 31 in the early morning hours and reunited with his family.
ZimParks spokesperson said, “Remarkably, it is estimated that he walked through the harsh terrain of the lion infested Matusadona National Park for 49 kilometers (30 miles) from his village to the point where he was found… During this period, he survived on wild fruits and would dig a small hole along the dry river bank to access underground water to drink, a technique that is well know in drought prone areas.”
Pudu is also said to have been “sleeping on a rocky perch” before he was found by the park rangers.
