MetLife Lands Final Match In 2026 FIFA World Cup

Updated: Feb 5

Soccer’s international governing body, FIFA announced yesterday that New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium would be the host of the final match in the 2026 World Cup tournament on July 19th, 2026.

The tournament will span across three co-hosting countries; U.S., Mexico and Canada, and will feature 104 matches of 48 teams from countries all over the globe.

MetLife Stadium reportedly beat out AT&T Stadium in Arlington/Dallas, Texas, which will host one of the two semi-final matches and Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium will host the other.

MetLife Stadium can seat about 87,000, and if sold out could be in the top 10 of World Cup attendances.

The opening match for Mexico will take place in Mexico City on June 11, 2026 at the Estadio Azteca stadium, which is the first stadium to host three World Cups.

The U.S.’s opening match will take place in Los Angeles at SoFi Stadium, and Canada’s first match will be at Toronto’s BMO Field, both on June 12, 2026.

Along with the above-mentioned U.S. cities, Boston, Houston, Miami, Philadelphia and Seattle are also hosting matches.
