Meta Platforms Down

Meta’s social media platforms are reporting outages on apps including Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, Threads and WhatsApp. The outages are spread across multiple countries from Egypt to the U.S.

Internet service outage site, DownDetector, which monitors apps, reported over 500,000 problems from Facebook users and over 70,000 problems on Instagram alone.

Andy Stone, Meta spokesperson posted on X, “We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now.”

Along with Meta, Google’s YouTube is also confirming problems in loading, a blank home page and errors in playing YouTube Shorts. Google’s Gmail is also experiencing delays in email delivery and its dashboard.

The outages, occurring on Super Tuesday’s presidential primaries in 16 states, could cause a problem for the presidential campaigns, which rely profoundly on Facebook and Instagram to connect with voters.

There hasn’t been a timeline as to when the outages will be corrected.
