Globally it is being reported to have surged over 20% from last year and is expected to rise as more people aren’t vaccinating their children. Last year the WHO said only 83% of children worldwide received their first dose of the vaccine and just 74% got the second dose.
Last year, it’s estimated that 107,500 people have died from this preventable disease, most being children under the age of 5.
Two doses of the vaccine are said to have 97% effectiveness and proved preventable.
