Robert Card has been found dead at 7:45 p.m. last night from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a 48-hour manhunt for the accused mass shooter.
Card’s body was found at a recycling plant where he used to work, in a trailer. The recycling plant is located about 10 miles from the bowling alley where the first shooting occurred, 8 miles from the bar and grille where the second shooting took place, and about a mile away from where his vehicle was found.
Before taking his own life, Card, a 40-year-old Army reservist, took the lives of 18 people and injured 13 others between both locations.
The shelter-in-place order has been rescinded that was put into place on Wednesday for all neighboring communities.
Chief of the Lewiston Police Department, Chief David St. Pierre said last night, “Our community can breathe a sigh of relief. Mr. Card is deceased and no longer a threat to our community or any other community. I just don’t want to forget the families that are grieving and will continue to grieve. I don’t want to forget the law enforcement officials that have worked tirelessly throughout this whole event to come to a good conclusion.”
