After receiving a unanimous vote of 99-0 from the Senate, former Republican Senator from Florida, Marco Rubio, 53, became the first of President Trump’s Cabinet nominees to be confirmed as Secretary of State. Rubio, a Cuban American, is the first Secretary of State to come from Latino/Hispanic decent, and is also first to come from the state of Florida.
Just a few hours after President Trump was sworn in as America’s 47th President, Rubio was approved with an overwhelming bipartisan vote with no senators voting against him.
Vice President JD Vance swore Rubio in as Secretary of State on Tuesday morning, saying he is a “bipartisan solutions seeker, a guy who can actually get things done, but a conservative of great principal and great vision.” Vance said Rubio is “one of his favorite people in Washington… he will remain a friend, I’m proud to know him and I’m proud to do this.” This was Vance’s first swearing in of an official.
Rubio said, “President Trump’s made it very clear, everything we do…must be justified by the answer to of one of three questions, ‘Does it make us stronger? Does it make us safer? And does it make us more prosperous?’ If it doesn’t do one of those three things, we will not do it.”
Rubio said he will help Trump keep his promises to Americans and believes the world will become a safer place through peace.
