Magnitude 4.7 Earthquake Hits Hawaii

At 12:52 a.m. local time, a magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck the Big Island of Hawaii about 28 miles from Hilo and 9 miles south of Fern Forest at the depth of four miles below sea level.

According to the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO), over 300 people in the area reported feeling the earthquake on the Big Island and on nearby islands.

There haven’t been any reports of injuries or major damages and authorities said the earthquake does not pose any tsunami threats. HVO did say that aftershocks are possible in the coming days to weeks.
