Tamayo Perry, legendary waterman and actor died after fatally being attacked by a shark off the island of Oahu, Hawaii.
Perry, 49, accomplished surfer, instructor, lifeguard and occasional actor was attacked on Sunday just before 1 p.m. on Malaekahana Beach and pronounced dead after lifeguards brought him to shore by jet ski.
Perry known for his role as a buccaneer in the movie Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides; the 4th installment in the movie franchise. Perry also had roles in Hawaii Five-0, Lost, Blue Crush and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.
Mayor Rick Blangiardi said in a press conference, “Tamayo was a legendary waterman and highly respected, he grew up right over here, and just a great member of our ocean safety team.”
Acting Chief of Honolulu Ocean Safety, Kurt Lager, said, Perry was, “a lifeguard loved by all.” Lager also said, “Tamayo’s personality was infectious, and as much as people loved him, he loved everyone else more.”
