Las Vegas Judge Attacked At A Sentencing

District Court Judge Mary Kay Holthus was attacked in the courtroom when a man she was sentencing charged and dove over her bench after her.

Deobra Delone Redden, 30, who has a history of violent crimes, was in court being sentenced for attempted battery with substantial bodily harm, of which he pled guilty to. Redden was asking Holthus for leniency, but Holthus didn’t accept his plea. 

Redden can be seen on a video launching over Holthus’ desk and pulling her to the floor. Three other people in the courtroom worked to pull Redden off of Holthus and a court clerk can be seen hitting Redden frequently, who was fighting back.

A courtroom marshal was sent to the hospital and suffered a dislocated shoulder and a gouge to his head and Judge Holthus suffered minor injuries. 

Redden will now face 13 additional charges including coercion with force, extortion, intimidation of a public officer, and multiple counts of battery on a protected person.
