LaMelo Order to Cover Tattoo

Updated: Nov 29, 2023

The NBA has ordered Charlotte Hornets star LaMelo Ball to cover his tattoo below his left ear. The tattoo is of the letters LF which stands for his middle name LaFrance. The issue is that it is also the name of his clothing brand which violates NBA policy.

"A player may not, during any NBA game, display any commercial, promotional, or charitable name, mark, logo, or other identification, including, but not limited to, uniform, on his body, in his hair, or otherwise," the rulebook states.

"We try to enforce the rule reasonably in accordance with its purpose and taking into account players' efforts to express themselves in a non-commercial manner. But LaMelo Ball's neck tattoo is in obvious violation of the rule, and accordingly, he's required to cover it," league spokesperson Tim Frank said in a statement.
