Two kindergarten boys, ages 5 and 6 remain in extremely critical condition after a gunman met with the principal regarding enrolling a student at Feather River Adventist School in Oroville, California, about 55 miles north of Sacramento.
On December 4th, shortly around 1 p.m. the gunman opened fire, striking two kindergarteners and then apparently took his own life, as he was found dead with what appeared to be self-inflicted gunshot wounds. Within two minutes after the 911 call at 1:08 p.m., a California highway patrol officer arrived on campus.
An Uber driver dropped the suspect off at the private K-8 school, which has an enrollment of about 35 students.
Authorities are investigating the shooter and what possible motives would lead to the shooting. Authorities believe the suspect possibly targeted the school due to its “affiliation with the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.” The FBI is assisting in this investigation.
Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said the boys’ injuries are “very, very serious.” Honea added, “I’m thankful that they are still alive but they have a long road ahead of them.”
