Key Bridge Update

Almost 11 weeks after the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed after being struck by a cargo ship, salvage crews have been able to successfully remove all remaining structures from the 700-foot-wide Fort McHenry Channel, opening the path to the Port of Baltimore.

Col. Estee S. Pinchasin of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) said, “We are not taking our foot off the gas… We are pushing forward as quickly and safely as possible to reach 700 feet and ensuring we remove all wreckage to prevent any impact to future navigation.”

Debris removal, passageways and restoration to the channel are expected to conclude and the channel is anticipated to open this weekend, by June 10.
