JetBlue Names First Woman CEO

JetBlue Airlines has named current COO (Chief Operating Officer) Joanna Geraghty as their new CEO (Chief Executive Officer); she is the first woman who will be in the position in any major U.S. airline carrier.

Geraghty has been with JetBlue since 2005 and has been moving her way up in the company, including becoming president and COO in 2018.

Geraghty, 51, is looking forward to her new role, which will begin on February 12; when current CEO Robin Hayes, 57, steps down to retire for health reasons.

Hayes said in a statement, “It’s bittersweet to retire from this airline I love, but I will always feel a part of the JetBlue team and rooting for its continued success.” Hayes added, “The extraordinary challenges and pressures of this job have taken their toll, and on the advice of my doctor and after talking with my wife, it’s time I put more focus on my health and well-being.”

Geraghty said she’s “honored and excited to serve as the next CEO of JetBlue.”
