International Women’s Day

March 8th is International Women’s Day (IWD). The day was officially recognized by the United Nations in 1977 to commemorate and recognize women’s achievements regardless of their ethnic, cultural, political or economic views.

IWD emerged from America’s first National Women’s Day observed in the United States on February 28, 1909.

Not only is it a day of celebration of women’s achievements, but also to raise awareness and educate about women’s equality, fundraise for charities focused on women, and fight for positive change in women’s equality.

Along with the United States, some other countries that celebrate the day are, Afghanistan, Armenia, Argentina, Australia, Cambodia, Chile, China, Germany, Israel, Italy, Romania, Russia, Spain, Uganda, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Vietnam, and Zambia to name a few.
