Illegal Salvadoran Accused of Murdering a Two-Year-Old

Illegal migrant from El Salvador was arrested this week in Maryland and charged with first and second-degree murder. Nilson Trejo-Granados, 25, is the fifth suspect in a group shooting that broke out earlier this month.

Two-year-old Jeremy Poou Caceres and his mother were out for a walk and were caught in the middle of the crossfires between two groups of men shooting at each other. Jeremy was pronounced dead at the hospital, and his mother suffered minor injures.

A spokesperson from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) said they repeatedly tried to remove Granados from the country, but the requests went ignored. A Department of Justice immigration judge in Newark, New Jersey ordered the removal of Granados from the U.S. in November 2022.

The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) arrested Granados in March of 2023 for theft. ICE/ERO filed for an immigration detainer, but it was refused and he was released.

In September of 2023, Granados was arrested again by MCPD with charges of theft and attempting to obstruct and hindering. Again, ICE’s immigration detainer was refused, and Granados was released once more.

Montgomery County has sanctuary status and that prohibits the police and corrections department from enforcing federal immigration laws.

Granados and the other four suspects are being held without bond.
