ICE’s 287(g) Program

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will use the 287(g) program to partner with local and state law enforcement that run prisons. Specific officers will be trained, certified and be given authorization, (if they aren’t already), on how to communicate and identify migrants in jail, then they can flag ICE.

The 287(g) Program’s Jail Enforcement model will identify and process removable noncitizens with criminal or pending criminal charges that are arrested by local and state agencies.

The Warrant Service Officer model will have the trained and certified officers execute administrative warrants on noncitizens in their prisons.

The program is designed to enhance safety and security in our nation to remove incarcerated criminal noncitizens.
