Hurricane Helene Aftermath

Hurricane Helene has left 202 people dead since it made landfall in Florida a week ago. North Carolina has suffered nearly half the deaths at 98 while South Carolina has reported 39, Georgia at 33, Florida at 19, Tennessee at 11 and Virginia at 2.


Helene is the deadliest hurricane since Katrina in 2005 and the fourth deadliest hurricane to make landfall in the mainland of the U.S. since 1950.


Hundreds remain missing and authorities are having a difficult time trying to identify some of the deceased. 


Over one million homes and businesses are still without power in the Southeast including Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina and Virginia. There are tens of thousands of residents, mostly in western North Carolina that still are without running water.


Hundreds of roads are still closed and in some areas, supplies are getting delivered by air and by mules.


SpaceX’s satellite internet service; Starlink, is providing 30 days of free internet service to the affected regions.


Up to 1,000 active-duty soldiers will join North Carolina National Guard to help deliver supplies, water and food to isolated communities.


FEMA has deployed over 3,500 personnel to assist with search, rescue and recovery missions and applications are open to residents who need aide.
