Hurricane Beryl Hits Land in Texas

After wreaking havoc in the Caribbean, Hurricane Beryl hit land in Texas as the first hurricane of the 2024 season to reach the U.S.


Beryl made landfall about 4 a.m. Central Time, on the Gulf Coast, in Matagorda, Texas with category 1-force winds at 80-85 mph. Sadly, 2 more lives have been claimed in Harris County, TX, when trees fell on the homes of the residents, taking the death toll up to 11 since last week. A 53-year-old man and a 74-year-old woman, each in separate homes died when trees crashed through the roof of their homes.


The hurricane center said described Beryl as, “life-threatening storm surge, damaging wind gusts and flooding rainfall.” Over 2.5 million Texans are without power.


Hurricane Beryl is moving through eastern Texas and has been weakened to a tropical storm, that is moving quickly through the state.
