Hurricane Beryl made its way across the Windward Islands, nearly flattening Grenada’s Carriacou Island. The category 4 storm winds reached 150 mph, and are expected to bring “catastrophic winds and life-threatening storm surge to the Windward Islands, including; Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadine Islands and Martinique.
Power outages, roof destruction and damaged buildings, including a hospital, are already being reported, along with limited communication to the Islands.
No deaths or injuries have been reported yet.
Beryl is heading west and is expected to maintain the category 4 strength over the next 12-24 hours. It is predicted to weaken to a category 1 or 2 as it nears Jamaica around Wednesday/Thursday. Then, as it moves toward the Yucatán Peninsula early Friday morning, it is likely to weaken down to a tropical storm.
