On Friday, the House of Representatives passed the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) bill 273-147.
The bill authorizes intelligence agencies to conduct warrantless surveillance. It is supposed to just use it for surveillance of foreigners and Americans linked to those targets. That's not what is happening anymore, if they actually were ever used properly after September 11th when it was originally created.
The weaponized intelligence agencies and Justice Department have used it to just target Americans. They've used lies, doctored and fake information to try and give their investigations credibility.
After it was discovered FISA was used to spy on President Donald Trump's 2016 campaign and into his presidency, documents showed they had no cause to spy on him and the intelligence agencies, FBI and a corrupt Department of Justice used falsified documents to try to cover for their illegal spying.
This caused some investigations in the House which showed the government had made 3.3 million queries on Americans under section 702 in 2021 alone and another 300,000 more Americans in 2022. Showing the government has weaponized FISA to target Americans.
One response government officials used in hearings to explain this unprecedented number of Americans being spied on was that it was "just an accident Americans got swept up in their queries.
That's a pretty big accident this feckless House has just authorized to continue for another two years.
