Hotel Workers Walk Off the Job

On Sunday, nearly 10,000 hotel workers walked off their job and began striking at 25 hotels across nine cities in the country, which include Baltimore, Boston, Greenwich, Honolulu, Kauai, San Diego, San Jose, San Francisco and Seattle.

UNITE HERE union represents over 40,000 workers who work for Hilton, Hyatt and Marriott hotels. The union says workers went on strike “after months of unresolved negotiations.”

Most workers are striking for higher wages, better health care, pensions, fairer workloads and the reversal of the pandemic-era job cuts.

Many are saying they are expected to still give “five-star services with three-star staff.”

Hyatt and Hilton say they are committed and willing to negotiate to get to reasonable agreements. Marriott hasn’t made comments yet.
